Are you a Bookcrosser?

January 10, 2008 at 3:42 pm (Book World News)

booshare1.jpgA great way to share the joy of reading is to join Bookcrossing.com.

More than half a million people in over 130 different countries around the world are members of this unique “book club.”

How it worksVisit www.bookcrossing.com to join.  (It’s free.)  Then choose a book from your collection that you want to “set free.”  In reality, you will be giving this book away by leavning it somewhere in the community.  Once you register the book, you print out a form from Bookcrossing and slip it in the book.  Choose a place to leave it…a park bench, someplace on campus, the laundromat…anywhere you’d like for someone to run across it.  When an interested person finds the book and decides to read it, they can then join Bookcrossing and make comments about the book if they’d like.  It also allows you to track the book as it moves around the community and the country!  It’s part treasure hunt, part book club.  Mostly it’s a lot of fun!

Look for books in Farmington by going on the bookcrossing site and clicking on the “go hunting!” link.  At this posting, there is currently 1 book “in the wild” which happens to be here at San Juan College!

librarything.gifbookshelf.jpg

Have you ever wanted to make an inventory of the books in your own personal library? …a  list you can search by subject, author, or title just like you do in a college or public library?

Check out Library Thing.

Library Thing not only serves as a way to catalog your personal collection, but also a way to share it and meet others who have similar libraries and interests. Plus, it’s just plain fun!
